Cherub Choir(4 year olds – 1st grade) Under Carol Newell, our youngest voices praise God in many fun ways with instruments, movements, and songs. The cherubs sing on the third Sundays, at the 8:30am service. Every child is welcome to join. Rehearsals are Sundays 10:30 to 10:50am in the Room 9. First rehearsal: September 16.
Carol Choir(2nd grade – 6th grade) Singers learn the basics of singing, music theory and about music of the Christian faith. They praise God through their voices with joy. Every child is welcome. This choir participates in the 8:30am worship service on the second Sundays. They also sing at special services throughout the year. Rehearsals are Sundays from 10:30 to 10:50am in the Room 10. First rehearsal: September 16.
Chancel Choir(Youth & Adult) The most “happening” choral group, singing every week at 11am Sunday worships as well as special services. They sing September to June. Everyone is welcome to join the choir. If you are not comfortable with sight-reading, Hyosang will provide you a tape that you can practice at home by yourself. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00pm in the sanctuary. First rehearsal: September 6.
Men’s Chorus (Youth & Adult) Mighty men gather to spice up special seasons such as Easter and Christmas. Rehearsals will start about a month prior to Easter and Christmas seasons on Sundays right after services in the music lounge from 12:15 to 1:00pm.
Praise Team (Youth & Adult)The love for worshipping and praising God through contemporary Christian music is what keeps this group ever so vibrant and alive. They sing year around without taking a break during the Summer Season. Song leaders, guitarists, and instrumentalists share their faith as they participate in leading ‘Songs of Praise’. Come join the Praise Team in glorifying His name! Rehearsals are on Sundays from 8:00 to 8:20am in the sanctuary. First rehearsal: September 2.
Celebration Ringers(1st grade– 3rd grade) Under Susan Croft, the Celebration Ringers will learn ringing basics as well as note-reading skills on choir chimes. The Celebration ringers play on the fourth Sundays. All children in 1st through 3rd grade are welcome to join this exciting group. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:00pm in Room A. (Rehearsal time is changeable, depending on the participants’ schedules.) First rehearsal: September 19.
Chapel Ringers(4th grade – 8th grade) Team challenges make this thrilling group to play in. Basic handbell and handchime ringing techniques and musicianship skills will be reviewed. Music reading ability is helpful but not required. The Chapel Ringers play on the fourth Sundays. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:00pm in the sanctuary. (Rehearsal time is changeable, depending on the participants’ schedules.) First rehearsal: September 19.
Sing & Ring (All Ages) This group is for those who want to ring but do not know how to read music yet. If you can tell differences between ‘circles’ and ‘lines’, you are eligible to join. Basic ringing techniques will be covered. Don’t come alone! Join this group with your child/children, parents, and friends to sing and ring together. Rehearsals are on the fourth Sundays at 5:30 – 6:00 in the sanctuary. First rehearsal: September 26. Kirk Ringers(Youth & Adult) All the ringers perform their impressive musicianship as a unified group on handbells as well as on choirchimes. Ringers bring distinctive reverberations to Sunday worships and special services. The ringers participate in the 11:00am service. If you can read music and are eager to learn more about ringing handbells and chimes, welcome! If unsure as to whether you are ready, contact Hyosang. She will guide you step by step. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Sanctuary. First rehearsal: September 12.
Ensemble Ringers (Youth & Adult) This group will concentrate on small ensemble ringing such as duet, trio and quartet handbell music. They perform challenging repertoires, so music-reading skill is required to join this group. The ensemble Ringers will perform on Sunday services as well as special services. Ensemble Ringers are appointed to join the New York Choral Society as a part of First Presbyterian Church’s Christmas Concert Series this year. Rehearsal time will be decided depending on ringers’ schedules.
Other opportunities Singers/Instrumentalists(All Ages) Do not have the time to make a weekly commitment to a group? The department of music ministry at First Presbyterian is always interested in getting everyone who wants to offer their musical talents involved. Solos, duets, and special music presentations by ensembles at Sunday services are always welcome. Please contact the music office for more information.
