BUILDING TASK FORCE
UPDATE
September 2006 Update
Sunday, September 10 was
a wonderful day at First Presbyterian
Church of Freehold! During our morning worship service we
dedicated our renovated and restored facilities
to be used for Christ’s ministry. The Rev. Bill
Jordan, Executive Presbyter of Monmouth Presbytery
preached, challenging us to build on the rock of our
faith. We also recognized the contractors and local
officials who were celebrating with us. This project, however,
would not have gotten off of the ground without someone with
vision and energy to lead the way. Special thanks was given to
Bev Dame and Bill Reid who co-chair the Building Task Force.
Other members of the task force include: Ruth Buffett, Lori
McCoy, Fred Scott and Derek Munnery.
After the service, a reception was held and the
buildings were open to take a look at the
renovations. More work must be done to complete the
project – the most important of which is the installation
of additional electrical power; this is scheduled to be
done the week of October 2. Once the additional power is available,
the elevator and several other small tasks will be
completed and we should be able to use all of
our facilities; we’re hoping this takes place by the
end of October.
We are extremely grateful to the many people who have given of
their time and energy to see this project come about, and especially
to those who spent their Saturday mornings in late August
and early September moving furniture and other items into the
renovated spaces.
Once the project is completed, our mortgage will begin. We will
need you to continue your generosity to this project.
In the meantime, stop by the church and take a look at the new
church offices and the handicapped bathroom in the auditorium.
The work which has been done in the rear of the sanctuary
building can only be viewed on Sunday mornings until
we receive our Certificate of Occupancy. Thanks be to
God for this Journey of Faith.
August 2006 Update
As the Building
renovation and restoration project nears completion,
we are preparing for our Service of Dedication on
Sunday, September 10 at 9:30am. In the meantime, work
continues . By Mid-August:
 |
The church offices were completed
|
 |
The music office on the Second floor of the Sanctuary
Building was being finished.
|
 |
Painting and flooring/carpeting were being completed.
|
 |
The Air Conditioning for the sanctuary was nearly
operable, but waiting for JCP&L to provide more
electricity to the church, without which the Air
Conditioning cannot be run.
|
 |
Folding partitions were being installed in the upstairs
of the Christian Education Building and in the first
floor of the Sanctuary building
|
 |
The Bathroom in the Auditorium was nearing completion
|
 |
The new handicapped ramp was being finished and
sidewalks poured
|
 |
The last two major items to be completed will be the
installation of the elevator in the Sanctuary
building and the chair lift in the Christian Ed
building.
|
Please join us on

of the Task Force, and the new possibilities for
ministry our expanded facilities will offer. Tours

Work is continuing on the electrical and plumbing
updating. |

May 2006
Update
 |
Our “Journey
of Faith” continues along, with completion set for mid to late June. |
 |
Mark your
calendars for Sunday, June 18. That morning we will have a special
service of dedication, during the 9:30am worship hour. Special music,
special guests, and a special preacher - Dave Watermulder! Come join us
as we thank God for God’s blessings to our congregation. |
 |
Though you
may not see anything happening, much work is being done in the sanctuary
building to install the air conditioning. Vents are being installed,
ductwork is being laid and the condenser is being built. |
 |
We continue
to be grateful for your donations and pledges. To date, over $450,000 has
been received, toward the estimated $1.3 million cost. Of the monies
received, we have had to pay for the architect and fundraising consultant,
in addition to construction costs. Your continued generosity is needed.
Please make sure that all of your donations are earmarked “CIF” - Capital
Improvement Fun. |

masonry work for the elevator shaft in the Sanctuary building is
completed. |
 |
The walls
of the auditorium bathroom have been installed, as have the walls in the
church office and in the rear of the Sanctuary building. |
 |

 |
Tours were
given on Sunday, March 26 to all who were in Sunday School or at

 |
Over
$400,000 has been received from pledges and donations toward the
completion of the project; total cost including architect and capital
campaign fees is $1.3 million. We also have received donations of new
desks for the Pastors’ offices and a new office computer. If you are
not using capital campaign envelopes to make your contribution, please
make sure that your donation is clearly marked “CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FUND”. |
 |
The
project is on schedule at this time. |
March 2006 Update
 |
The project is running on schedule,
if not a little ahead due to the warm January weather. |
 |
A meeting was held on January 19
with members who had joined the church since the Campaign began in April
2004. |
 |
Currently, work is being done to
prepare the attic of the Sanctuary building for the installation of the air
conditioning. Also, the second stairway has been added to the rear of the
sanctuary building, and the elevator shaft is in the process of being built. |
 |
In the Christian Ed. Building, the
offices have been sheetrocked. |
 |
Outside, the porch and ramp are in
process; once the weather becomes warmer, the ramp will be covered with stone,
matching the building. |
 |
A REMINDER: Please do not open the
fence and walk through the construction area between the two buildings. Also,
do not go into the rear of the sanctuary building. Some time in the next
month, we will be having tours and a construction update for the
congregation. Look in the bulletin for more information. |
 |
We still encourage you to remember
to be generous to the Capital Campaign Fund! Your generosity is very
important to us as we continue the construction phase. We are grateful for
your participation in the Proceeds night at TGIFriday’s; we receive an average
of $120 from each gathering. Also, thank you for turning in your ACME
receipts. So far, we have received nearly $400 toward our project from your
receipts. REMINDER: the PINK ENVELOPES IN YOUR OFFERING ENVELOPE BOX ARE NOT
FOR THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN; PLEASE USE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN ENVELOPES TO MAKE YOUR
DONATIONS. |
 |
We covet your prayers as we move
forward in our “Journey of Faith”. |

February 2006 Update
 |
1. Progress
continues to be made on our renovations. Starting the week of December 12,
our contractors began the process of renovating walls in the rear of the
Sanctuary building and the CE building, digging the elevator shaft, removing the
wooden ramp at the rear of the Sanctuary building, building the new ramp and
porch off the rear side of the Sanctuary, and the additional stair case is being
built for the Sanctuary building.
|
 |
2. We
continue to be grateful for the financial support of the congregation.
Over $30,000.00 in ACME grocery receipts have been turned in- keep them coming;
the Capital Campaign receives 2% of the total receipts. Also, TGIF
Proceeds Night continues to bring in between $120 and $180 per time. Our
next Proceeds Night is Thursday, February 16th. Don't forget, Dottie
Burdge's Bread & Butter Pickle proceeds also go to the Capital Campaign
Fund. Finally, we encourage you to keep your pledges to the Capital
Campaign up-to-date. Nearly $400,000 has been given so far; the final cost
of our project, however, is $1.3 million. The more funds we have on hand
prior to the end of construction, the lower our mortgage payment will be.
|
 |
3. We are
pleased, given the age of our building, that we have not encountered too many
difficulties. The only significant add-on we had is to re-enforce the
foundation in the basement where the elevator shaft was being dug. This
will cost us an additional $15,000.00.
|
 |
4. Please
check the church website periodically for photo updates of the project.
The website address is:
www.monmouth.com/~fpcf . If you do not have access to the internet,
copies of the pictures are available in the church office.
|
 |
5. Reminder:
Please do not go into the rear of the Sanctuary Building! Later in March,
tours will be offered.
|
December 2005 Update
 |
As we prepare for the Holidays, you will begin to see construction activity
around the church. As of 11/15/05 permits were being obtained from Freehold
Borough to begin our work. We are extremely grateful to Mayor Wilson and the
Freehold Borough Council who adopted a resolution waiving all of our permit
fees.
|
 |
As work progresses we
will keep you informed of any inconveniences you may experience. We are grateful
for your patience and cooperation as we undergo this much needed project.
|
November 2005 Update
 |
After receiving and reviewing bids from 7 contractors, a
contract will soon be signed with Charles B. Hembling & Sons of Shrewsbury to
be our general contractor. Once the contract is signed, work will begin. |
 |
The cost of the project is $1.13 million, which includes
air conditioning for the Sanctuary, renovations to the rear of the sanctuary
building, with an elevator installed, a bathroom in the auditorium and the
creation of new church offices. |
 |
To cover the project, a construction loan of up to $900,000
has been secured from First Washington Bank and has been approved by Monmouth
Presbytery. |
 |
Currently there is over $180,000 in the Capital Campaign
account; to date over $350,000 has been received. Monies have been paid to the
architect and to the Capital Campaign fundraiser. Thank you for your
generosity. If you have not donated to the fund, please talk with Polly
Hartzell about how to do so. |
October 2005 Update
 |
A loan has been secured from First Washington Bank.
|
 |
Monmouth Presbytery has given us the final approval
to go ahead with our loan and project.
|
 |
Seven Contractors participated in a walk through of
the intended renovations. Bids have been received from 5 Contractors and
are being reviewed by the Architect. Contractors will then be
interviewed by the Task Force Co-Chairs.
|
 |
Donations continue to be received, with over $177,000
on hand at the present time.
|
 |
In July and August, $8600 was received for the
Capital Improvement Fund from member donations.
|
 |
Plans are on schedule for a mid-October start to the
renovations.
|
For more information, please contact either Bill Reid or Bev Dame.
September 2005 Update
 |
As of July 31,
2005, there was $180,438 available in the Capital Improvement Fund. Monies
have been paid so far to the Architect and to the Capital Campaign
consultants.
|
 |
Loan offers from
First Washington Bank and PNC are currently being considered.
|
 |
On August 13,
everything from the back of the Sanctuary building was moved either to the
Auditorium or to the Storage trailer which is in the rear parking lot. If
you have items which were in that location, please contact the church
office to find out where they have been stored.
|
 |
Because the
auditorium is being used for storage, for all of the music, and for Sunday
School, most large group activities for the coming year will be postponed.
If you have planned a group meeting for the auditorium, please check with
the Building Task Force to see if your meeting is possible.
|
 |
Bids for the
construction are due in by August 31, at which time the winning bids will
be selected. Construction should begin in early September.
|
 |
We ask for your
prayers as well as your patience in the coming months during this period
of renovation and restoration. Flexibility will be the key!

Update
Our plans for the renovations of our facilities is moving
right along. In the past month, Monmouth Presbytery's Council has
recommended approval of our mortage to assist with the costs of our plan.
At this point it looks like the total cost of the renovations of the rear of
the sanctuary building, the minor changes to the second floor of the CE
building, the bathroom on the Auditorium level and the air conditioning of
the sanctuary building will be around $1.2 million dollars. The
architect, Eric Holtermann, is now working on specific details of the plan
so that bids can be sought. Construction should begin this summer.
Our Capital Campaign continues to move along well. The total donated as of
April 17 is $306,006. If you haven't pledged toward the Capital
Campaign and would like to do so, please contact Polly Hartzell at
732-901-8946. We are grateful for your generosity. Additional
ways to contribute to the fund are by attending the TGIFriday's Proceed
night, purchasing AMWAY products from Colin Lancaster, and participating in
the BARGAIN BAZAAR on June 18.
